Skill development, sportsmanship, and building self-esteem are essential. For a small school like QMS, this not only means providing as many opportunities for students to try as many different sports as possible (in addition to the Equestrian Program), but also supporting their opportunities to excel at sport within the community. Grade 8 student Bree Castle won a bronze medal in the Provincial Cadet Championships at Mount Washington this year and earned a bronze and silver medal in team events at the national level in Quebec this past spring.

Many international students take advantage of their time at QMS to try new sports. At this year’s Athletic Banquet, Crystal Leung won the Most Improved Player in two sports, field hockey and badminton. She also won the Junior PE award for her embodiment of effort and sportsmanship. What was amazing about this feat is that prior to coming to QMS, Crystal had never played field hockey before.

Santiago Probert is an international student from Mexico City who was a member of the QMS Intermediate Boys Soccer Team, which went undefeated at a recent tournament this year. He also achieved a personal best in running events at the Mid Island Track & Field Meet this year. Outside of school, his host family helped him participate in rugby and community soccer, all of which expanded his experience at QMS.
